La Roux - Bulletproof

la roux is a dark little punk. her electronic pulsing sound is unique, but her words are quite opposite of the typical love song. a taylor swift antidote.

“Been there. Done that. Messed around. I’m having fun, don’t put me down. I’ll never let you sweep me off my feet. I won’t let you in again… Burning bridges shore to shore, I break away from something more… All you do is fill me up with doubt.”

- La Roux, Bulletproof

“It’s all false love and affection. You don’t like me you, just want the attention.”

- La Roux, I’m Not Your Toy

not brooding, but resilient and defiant. the music makes you want to punch your lover in the face and storm off briskly to your independence of hipsterdom.

other La Roux:

I’m Not Your Toy, In For The Kill, Quicksand

sweet mashup:

Perfectly Bulletproof (The White Panda)

Washed Out - Feel It All Around

incredible music. washed out is liquefied ear-drops of surfer’s paradise. epitome of chillwave.

Washed Out in the news:

on Tuesday (Apr. 19), Pitchfork reported that the band had signed to Sub Pop Records with a new LP to be out in July (full tracklist included). yesssssssssss.

other Washed Out:

Belong, Hold Out, New Theory, You’ll See It, Get Up

remixed Washed Out:

You’ll See It (Small Black Remix), Feel It All Around (Toro y Moi Remix)

Queens of the Stone Age - Turnin’ on the Screw

first song from their truly amazing album Era Vulgaris (Jun, 2007). it builds well, as most QOTSA songs do, but the vocals are also more interesting than most of their songs.

other QOTSA:

3’s and 7’s, No One Knows, Go with the Flow, Little Sister

Sleigh Bells - Rill Rill

somehow this song got stuck in my head today. i don’t remember when i first heard it (circa last summer) and i don’t know how it got back in my head, but i’m really glad it did.

the video is pretty retro, aren’t-we-hipsters, cool too.

Mark Ronson and The Business Intl - Bang Bang Bang

so this song features MNDR, a French duo who bring the hook, and WTF?!?

it’s motherfuckin Q-Tip.

other Q-Tip:

Gettin’ Up

and of course, his former entourage, A Tribe Called Quest:

Electric Relaxation, I Left My Walled in El Segundo, Chase Part II

Animal Collective - Bluish

AC is unquestionably making the best, most interesting music now. Bluish is a strange video, like all of their videos, but the song is one of the best from Merriweather Post Pavilion (certainly the greatest album of this millennium).

oh? you want to argue? just check deez reviews:

It feels like one of the landmark American albums of the century so far. [Jan 2008, p.86] - Uncut

Time may very well lend Merriweather Post Pavilion a legend extraordinary enough to faithfully capture its myriad treasures. - No Ripcord

Soulful and almost structurally flawless (it’s the most minor of complaints that the middle run of songs are all about a half-minute too long), Merriweather finds one of the most talented, most creative pop bands finally and gloriously figuring it all out. - Slant Magazine

Even by their own exuberant standards, though, AC’s ninth album is a dizzying knees-up that makes most music, indie rock or otherwise, sound both bloodless and pathetically timid. - Observer Music Monthly

It’s of the moment and feels new, but it’s also striking in its immediacy and comes across as friendly and welcoming. - Pitchfork

other Merriweather Post Pavilion:

My Girls, Guys Eyes, Summertime Clothes, Brothersport, In the Flowers, Daily Routine, Taste, Also Frightened, No More Runnin’, Lion in a Coma

other AC:

Fireworks, Graze, What I Would Want? Sky, Water Curses, Grass, Banshee Beat, The Purple Bottle, For Reverend Green, Winter Wonder Land, Leaf House, Did You See the Words, Who Could Win a Rabbit

sweet mashup:

Animal Collective vs. Beach Boys - All I Wanna Do (Is Just What My Body Needs To)

Free Blood - Never Hear Surf Music Again

from the movie 127 Hours. crazy music.

good job James Franco!

Rej3ctz - Cat Daddy

obviously awesome video. learn the dance.

Tiesto - Feel It in My Bones (ft. Tegan and Sara)

dumb dumb video. one of the better Tiesto songs, though he thinks he’s better than he is in reality.

other Tegan and Sara:

Walking With a Ghost, Back In Your Head

better versions:

The White Stripes - Walking With a Ghost

Phoenix - Lisztomania (Alex Metric Remix)

good song, great remix.

other Phoenix:

Lisztomania, Fences, 1901

sweet mashup:

Girl Talk - Triple Double (00:01 - Phoneix - 1901)
